Ortega's Canvas & Sail

Absolute customer satisfaction is the mantra behind Ortega’s Canvas and Sail Repair. "Service is the most important thing in customer relations; not price. "If you don’t have the service and quality, then you do not have customers", states John Ortega, owner and driving force behind the business.
From simple beginnings in 1968 (a renovated and uniquely decorated step-van parked along the highway leading to Oceanside Harbor Marina, in Oceanside, California) the company has graduated from $25 repair jobs to million dollar projects.
Led by Certified Master Fabric Craftsman John Ortega, the company has earned much of its international reputation from its work at Sea World in San Diego, California. This has led to on-going relationships with amusement parks, research facilities, zoos, shopping centers, municipal and federal agencies from Hong Kong, Canada, and the British West Indies.
Among Ortega’s more memorable projects was his involvement with Sea World of San Diego in the design of a whale sling for use in the rescue of gray whales stranded in ice flows near Barrow, Alaska. This design eventually led to work on all of the "Free Willy" movies and the move for Keiko to Oregon, and then on to Iceland.
Numerous IFAI International Achievement Awards have been awarded to Ortega’s based upon their innovative design and fabrication techniques. "I don’t believe in taking shortcuts", states John. This is exemplified in his insistence in the use of cable and quick links to achieve a clean, flowing design.
A specialist in custom construction, Ortega’s has achieved a reputation for his work with tension structures and netting structures.
Despite its success and immersion in custom work and speciality projects, Ortega’s delivers the same level of quality to less expensive residential endeavors for hundreds of sun-loving Southern California clients.
